I have stayed in some beautiful hotels, but Lodge in the Woods was one of the few that immediately felt completely unlike anywhere else I had been. This small Bali stay has white horses wandering around the farm, goats, friendly dogs, birds, a bright blue pool under the trees, and lush greenery in every direction. It has a peaceful, fairytale-like feeling, but the rooms are still polished and luxurious enough that it feels like a proper special stay rather than a rustic escape.
I stayed in the Kore Room and loved it. Lodge in the Woods is in Kaba-Kaba, a village inland from Canggu and Seminyak, so it is not the place to book if you want to walk to beach clubs and busy cafes. The real reason to stay here is the farm experience. If you want to shower horses at sunrise, walk them through rice fields, see them run around the pool, and spend your evenings feeding goats, I would recommend it without hesitation. Here is what my stay was like, what I paid, and the few logistics I would know before booking.
Farm Mornings With Horses and Goats
The animals are the first thing that make this property memorable. The white horses were such a beautiful surprise, especially against all of the green around the lodge, and I loved seeing the goats, dogs, and birds around the property too. It is not a hotel that has added a few decorative farm animals for the aesthetic. The adjacent farm is an animal sanctuary with rescued horses and goats, and guests can visit it. The lodge also grows vegetables and herbs there for its kitchen.
The Horse Activity Schedule
During my stay, we got to feed the horses and goats at 5 p.m., which was so cute and a lovely way to spend the first evening. The next day started at 7 a.m. with showering the horses, so prepare an outfit you do not mind getting wet in. Afterward, we took them on a walk through the rice fields around Kaba-Kaba. It was such a pretty morning and a completely different Bali experience from the usual pool or beach day.
At 8:30 a.m., during breakfast, the animals were brought into the hotel area and ran around the pool. This was the classic Lodge in the Woods shot you see on social media, and it was amazing for photos. A photographer came at the same time and helped everyone take pictures with the horses. The whole session was very efficient, and the photos turned out really nicely. For the best color in your photos, I would wear white or black. It looked especially good against the white horses and all of the green around the lodge. I would confirm the exact activity schedule when you book because it may change, but I would absolutely plan around this part of the stay if it is available.
What I loved most was the contrast between the concrete rooms and neutral interiors, and all of the trees, animals, and blue water around them. I could sit by the pool and see animals nearby, then return to a room that was beautiful and very comfortable. It is a great choice if you care as much about the aesthetic of where you stay as the hotel amenities themselves.
Breakfast and Dinner at Lodge in the Woods
Breakfast was included with my stay, and it was generous and delicious. I always appreciate a hotel breakfast that actually keeps you full before a day out, and this one did. The kitchen uses produce grown on the farm, which made the meal feel connected to the place rather than an afterthought.
I ordered dinner at the lodge on my first night, and I highly recommend doing the same because the meals are exclusive to guests. I paid about $10 for a filling pasta and dessert, and the pasta was so delicious. It was not the cheapest for Bali prices, but it definitely wasn’t a splurge either, and the prices felt standard and affordable for a tourist restaurant in Bali. A full multi-course meal will cost more. The current lodge menu lists lunch and dinner service, though I would confirm the day’s hours and offerings with the lodge when you book.
Community Support, Drivers, and Massages
Another thing I really liked was that the lodge did not add extra fees to the services hotels often mark up. If they help arrange a driver, they connect you directly with a local driver rather than adding their own fee. I appreciated that because it was simple for me and meant the money went directly to the person providing the service.
The same idea applies to massages. The lodge can arrange an in-room treatment with a local therapist, and its current policy says it does not add a surcharge, so the therapist receives the full fee. I did not book one because I am not much of a massage person, but the price seemed affordable and it would be a lovely option if that is something you enjoy on a relaxing hotel stay.
Getting to Lodge in the Woods in Kaba-Kaba
I took a Grab from near Seminyak to get there, and that part was easy. The more important thing is planning how you will leave. Grab and Gojek are scarce around Kaba-Kaba, so I would arrange a driver in advance for your onward journey rather than assuming you can call a ride when you are ready to go. The lodge can help you arrange one as well.
There is also a small arrival detail that is very easy to miss. Google Maps may bring you to the cafe, but check-in is across the street, down a path, and behind a gate. The booking email explains it, but I missed that detail at first, so save the instructions and read them again before your driver drops you off. It will save you from standing at the cafe wondering where the lodge is!

The Kore Room: Price, Shower, and Amenities
I booked the Kore Room, one of the rooms in the separate barnhouse area, for about $300. It felt luxurious and carefully designed, with the kind of minimal style that makes you want to spend time enjoying your room instead of only using it as a place to sleep. I especially loved the shower, which was one of my favorite details in the room. The air conditioning and Wi-Fi both worked well during my stay, which matters when you are coming from a humid Bali afternoon and still want to upload photos or plan the next part of your trip.
The official room information currently lists high-speed Wi-Fi, air conditioning, a rain shower, natural bath products, filtered drinking water, and breakfast for two. Kore and its neighboring Nalu Room can also be booked together as a more private setup for a family or small group.
Because you are staying in a very green, natural setting, I did see one or two tiny bugs near the door. It did not affect my stay at all, and I think it is a fair tradeoff for how lush the property is. The lodge uses natural pest control, and staff sprayed organic mosquito repellent in the evening.

- What I saw when searching: Other rooms were around $260 when I looked about two months ahead, but availability was already limited.
- Good to know: There are only six rooms, so I would not leave this one until the last minute if you have a specific room in mind.
- Room feel: Beautifully designed, luxurious, cool, and comfortable rather than rustic.
Photography Rules and Tripod Policy
This is important if you are a photographer, content creator, or anyone traveling with a larger camera. Lodge in the Woods’ current reservation-page policy says that professional photoshoots are prohibited and that guests may take informal photos with mobile phones, but professional cameras are not allowed on the property. I would email the lodge before booking if there is any chance your camera or intended use could fall into that category, rather than assuming your usual travel setup will be fine.
The staff were very helpful about taking photos and videos for me, which I really appreciated. But I was not allowed to set up a tripod in the hotel area, even though everyone was busy taking photos and videos on their phones. I was told it was to protect the peace of the place, but that distinction did not make much sense to me in practice. At the farm, though, they did let me set up a tripod, and I was able to get some nice shots there. It is a particularly important detail because this is such a photogenic place, so I would ask about the current tripod rules in advance if content is a big part of your stay.
Who Lodge in the Woods Is Best For
I would recommend Lodge in the Woods most strongly to couples and friends who want a beautiful, animal-filled stay together. It is a lovely choice for a special night away from the busiest parts of Canggu and Seminyak, especially if you care about design, good food, and being surrounded by nature.
I went solo, and I did feel a little awkward at the big communal breakfast table, where everyone eats together. If you are comfortable meeting people, that may be a nice part of the stay, but it is worth knowing if you prefer a more private solo-hotel experience. I would also skip it if you need to be in the middle of Bali’s restaurant, beach-club, or shopping scene, or if you want the freedom to summon a ride at any hour. Plan your transport, read the arrival instructions, book early if you want a specific room, and you will get to enjoy the best part: spending time with horses and goats in one of the prettiest settings I saw in Bali.
Canggu and Ubud Driver Planning
Lodge in the Woods is closer to Canggu than Ubud, but I would still arrange a private driver if you are building a day around either area. Grab and Gojek are hard to find once you are back in Kaba-Kaba, and a driver is much more practical for a Canggu beach-and-cafe day, an Ubud itinerary with rice terraces and temples, or a hotel-to-hotel move between the two.
If you want a flexible option, I would look for a private car charter that covers both Canggu and Ubud rather than an East Bali tour. That gives you far more freedom to make the stay work with the rest of your Bali itinerary.
